During the Clan War he was visited by the Fortunes in dreams, who commanded him to spend a night of meditation at Tempest Island, a place devoid of any kind of settlement. The island was avoided because of the frequent storms ravaging its shores. He moved to the island, and that night the storms were particularly strong, so everyone assumed that Taiken was dead. The next morning a kobune sent at Taiken's bride insistence, found him alive in the shore. Taiken claimed the Fortunes had spared him because he was enacting their will. The next day he began the construction of Tempest Island Temple, which was sanctioned by his Lord Yoritomo.
