Yasuki Jekku
Yasuki Jekku was a merchant and courtier of the Crab Clan.
Colonies[]
In 1198 Jekku met the newly arrived Kuni Daimyo Kuni Renyu in his quarters in the Imperial District of the Second City. He arranged meetings with men of authority there so Renyu could inform of the new orders issued by his brother the Crab Clan Champion Hida Kisada related to the Colonies, to increase production. [1] Jekku himself was sent to collect the harvest produced by the peasants under the whip of Kaiu Esumi, [2] in the Magnificent Farmlands of the Fuzake [3]
Warring the Spider[]
Jekku reported to his lord Hida Kisada that the Emerald Champion Utaku Ji-Yun had sanctioned the Mantis-Crane War in the Colonies, because the Imperial Decree banning warfare between the clans might not apply within the Colonies in matters of honor. The Crab saw the very existence of the Spider Clan as an affront to their honor, so Kisada ordered to fight the Spider in the Colonies. [4] His distant cousin Kitsuki Yoyugi was also appointed in the Colonies. He was one of those few among his clan who did not particularly care for the Spider. [5]
A Border Incident[]
Jekku catches Jikaro as hostage
In 1199 Shiba Jikaro, a celebrated veteran of the War of the Twins, inadvertently crossed into Crab territory in the Colonies. He became a a hostage of Jekku, on grounds of potential espionage. [6]
Imperial Court[]
Jekku was appointed in the Imperial Court, where he saw how Kitsu Kanae blamed the Crab for the appearance of an oni of the Shadowlands, Minikui no Oni, within the Lion lands. Jekku stepped in to defend his clan's honor, which had been deliberately insulted by the Lion. He granted his yojimbo Hida Reigoro his request to return to the front lines rather than continue serving as a bodyguard. Later this year the Crab and Lion confronted in the Plains of Thunder, until it was exposed the demon had been summoned by a corrupted shugenja descendant of the defunct Shimizu family. [7]
Apprentice of the Grand Master of the Elements[]
The Grand Master of the Elements Naka Mahatsu recognized a dark future ahead and began training his replacement. He selected Yasuki Jekku as his apprentice. Thought to be a strange choice, Mahatsu considered the young merchant to have all the necessary requirements for taking the position. [8]
