Yama no Kuyami

From L5r: Legend of the Five Rings

Jump to: navigation, search

The Mountains of Regret were called that because of the many lives lost in the only pass that crosses the mountains. In the light of a sunset the snow on the mountains turns red as snow, as if the mountains were bleeding. These lands are the home of the Asako family of the Phoenix Clan. Despite the many foreboding aspects of the range, the mountains are known across Rokugan for their natural beauty.

[edit] Landscape

The harsh nature of the mountains is well balanced by the stark beauty of nature. Shrines dot the landscape of the range, from Reihaido Uikku in the south to secret Gisei Toshi in the north. The beauty and serenity of the landscape is only broken by the occasional inn or palace. Though these signs of civilization are few within the mountains, the roads between them are very well-maintained, because they are often the only routes to the rest of Rokugan.[1]

[edit] Control

Though the entire range does not officially lie within the borders of the Phoenix Clan, there are many shrines near the border that are cared for by the Phoenix. The Shrine of the Ki-Rin, Sleeping Thunder Mountain, and Iron Rings Cascade all fall outside the clan's borders, but have been long tended by the Asako monks. Until the Dragon-Phoenix War, these lands were unclaimed by any Clan, and the Phoenix monks simply tended to their duties, regardless of the political borders of their clan.[1]

[edit] Threats

Ogres and goblin have been sighted here on numerous occasions, and many shugenja suspect there is an ancient breeding ground in the caves. If it exists, the Phoenix Clan has not been able to find it.[2]
