Warabushi was the Rokugani term for "straw targets". It was a common tactic used in siege defense, the creation of straw, wicker, or clay soldiers dressed in wooden armor painted to resemble samurai armor. These warabushi were placed at attention on high walls or in other areas where enemy scouts would see them, but would be unable to examine them closely enough to determine that they were not real soldiers. The Hiruma frequently stocked the Kaiu Wall with wicker troops to deter Shadowlands forces. The Scorpion occasionally carried straw targets into battle, using them both as a means of padding their numbers and an improvised shield against archer fire. [1]
