The War of Fire and Thunder erupted between the Phoenix and Mantis Clans after the Phoenix alledged that the Mantis had used a Black Scroll on a Phoenix village. Although the act had in fact been perpetrated by the bloodspeaker Asako Kinuye, this was unknown to everyone, and the Phoenix petitioned the Imperial Courts that the Mantis Great Clan status should be revoked.
[edit] Climax
The War climaxed in a clash on the Phoenix Coast. While the two sides were battling each other, the Dark Wave Fleet entered the fray attacking both sides. Finding a common enemy the Phoenix and Mantis turned on the corrupted Mantis. Yoritomo Kumiko boarded the flagship and engaged Yoritomo Kitao, ending in both being killed in the destruction of the ship. Master of Earth Isawa Sachi and Orochi sensei Yoritomo Kaigen combined their magic to destroy the vast majority of the Dark Wave, but they were both killed in the process.
[edit] Aftermath
Although the threat of the Dark Wave had been dealt with there was still tension between the two sides. Yoritomo Naizen, who had taken command after the death of Kumiko, wished to continue the fight. So did Shiba Mirabu, but the intervention of Isawa Nakamuro caused the end to the fight. The Phoenix surrendered, and offered to withdraw the accusations regarding the Black Scroll and revoking the Great Clan status. Naizen however refused the offer, and claimed the new island created by Sachi in the name of the Mantis Clan as well as the sea trade routes previously owned by the Phoenix. Yoritomo Naizen also assumed the position as Mantis Clan Champion.
