The trolls were the only civilization to survive both the Nezumi and the fall of Fu Leng. They did however not survive the rulership of Hida Osano-Wo. Remnants of their civilization still exist, the ruins of Volturnum, where the Battle of Oblivion's Gate was fought. They are green and flabby, prefering to attack from ambushes as opposed to straight confrontations. They are mostly found in the swamp areas of the Shadowlands, and would rarely be found within Rokugan itself. If faced with superior numbers the trolls will flee and remain out of sight until the threat is gone. When fighting they fight with all the strength they can muster, until one of them is slain. If travelling through the Shadowlands they should be avoided rather than confronted. (3E p. 283)
