Syrup was a farmer's daughter who was sold to the House of the Breaking Wave, where she was trained as a geisha. The business increased with her presence. One of her friends, Oko, of the House of the Morning Star, once changed her clothes with her, so Syrup could attend a samurai, Ashidaka Michitaka, whose behaviour was even worse when drunk.
Publicly mocked Edit
When the Memoirs of an Opium Eater was published many secrets were revealed, although the characters were presented under pseudonyms. Syrup's nickname had not been censored, so she was humiliated. Syrup's first reaction was to abandon the Licensed Quarter and return home, but her madam would not allow it. Her only other course of action to end her public mockery was poison.
