Message for WestonWyse. The absence of information from one source does not imply it is not true. Here, from Fires of the Hidden City Part II

(Excerpt deleted for brevity & copyright issues. Still available in the History, if you're interested.)

While that's true, you're still missing a few things:
    • Absence of information also does not imply that it is true. You can't simply add things because they sound good to you.

I didn't add things because they sounded good to me. People think maho is evil only because of kolat propaganda may sound good to me, but isn't true by L5R canon and so I didn't write it. I made the change because there was new information from canon replacing an older incomplete set of facts.

Facts which you neglected to mention. How was I supposed to know that? That's why you need to cite sources. I know you're new. I'm not trying to be mean. If I was, I'd just block you and be done with it. I'm just trying to show you how things look from my point of view, is all. --WestonWyse 04:53, 29 Aug 2005 (UTC)
    • The quote you chose still says that maho was "the magic of violence and suffering," even before Fu Leng, and that it had to be used "with caution and moderation." It was never good magic, and the section from WoPhoneix still makes sense without your inclusion.

It was the magic of violence and suffering, but it was also free of Jigoku's touch. It was never "good", but not evil either. It could cause pain, like many tools, but it didn't damn the soul by default. The phoenix did not abandon maho because the magic was always evil, but because their gods could no longer keep it pure. The current discription makes it sound like the Isawa stopped once they figured out the evil nature of maho, which is misleading. The Isawa were already aware of maho's cost (hence to be used "with caution and moderation"), they stopped when that cost became too high and could no longer be paid.

    • You have to cite your sources. Otherwise, it looks like you're making things up from memory.

That I can do. I'll watch out for citing different sources that show seemingly contradicting information in the future. I just started out here, you know.

If you want to re-write that section, go ahead. But if you don't give a source for your new information, expect it to be scrutinized. Especially if the paragraph becomes contradictory to the source already listed, which is what you did before, then I willl definitely change it to reflect the information actually provided. --WestonWyse 13:07, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)
