The Susumu family were the courtiers of the Spider Clan. They were founded after Empress Iweko I declared the Spider a Great Clan in 1173. They were named after Daigotsu Susumu, the former Imperial Advisor and Dark Fortune of Deception. Their first daimyo was Susumu Kuroko.
History[]
Founding[]
In 1174 the Susumu family was founded, and Susumu's two years old daughter was named the heir. Those among the Spider who bore no Taint and had a talent for diplomacy were appointed to this family. They were tasked by the Council of the Spider with the task of representing the clan in diplomatic matters in the Empire. [1] Daigotsu Susumu joined and led the family until Daigotsu Susumu's daughter came of age. [2]
First Daimyo[]
In 1188 Susumu Kuroko assumed control of the Susumu family. [1] At the end of the 12th century, the Susumu were very small in numbers, counting less than 30 members. But they were successfully growing by birth and marriage, albeit slowly. [3] The Susumu were much broader and subtler in both their attitudes and their methods than the rest of the Spider Clan. [4]
Rise of Jigoku[]
During the festivals predating Iweko Seiken's coronation, the Imperial Heir had publicly humiliated Daigotsu Kanpeki by announcing that he would remove him as Spider Clan Champion. Seiken's brother, Iweko Shibatsu would join the Susumu family as their daimyo and become Lord Spider. Kanpeki considered this as betrayal of the deal between his father and Iweko I and declared war on the Empire. [5] Many of the Susumu were killed or taken captive by the rebellious Spider, [6] and the family were only thirty-six in number. [7] During the war the Susumu network warned the Imperial Families, Phoenix, and Crane before entire farmlands were lost to Spider torches. When the Emperor ordered the evacuation to the Colonies the Susumu family assisted the Imperials in their efforts and sabotaged the Spider's intelligence networks. [8]
