The Steel Sect was one of the ten Kolat sects.

Duty[]

Its purpose was to protect the Hidden Temple, the headquarters of the Kolat conspiracy. It's members patroled the area around the temple, and disposed of those who come too near. [1]

This sect had the most direct chain of command. Master Steel personally knew and commanded directly all the members of the sect, and didn't follow the secrecy standards of the other sects. He felt that his responsibility of protecting the Hidden Temple would only be made more complicated by maintaining the level of secrecy under which the other Masters operate. [1]

Internal Debate[]

After the crippling attacks of the Lying Darkness and Shinjo's purge the kolat were disorganized, and many critical agents were isolated. The organization sought a new focus, torn between their desire to remake the Celestial Order and the more pragmatic desire to ensure the organizations existence. The Tiger, Cloud, Lotus, and Dream Masters were traditional Kolat, with Master Cloud the most vocal member of the group. The Coin, Silk, and Chrysanthemum Masters, alongside Master Steel, all adhered to the modern philosophy. Neither Master Jade nor Master Roc seemed interested in this ongoing debate. [2] The latter philosophy was championed by Morito and it seemed to be winning out. [3]

Fall of the Hidden Temple[]

In the aftermath of the fall of the Hidden Temple, the Steel Sect lacked a true mission. The handful of survivors from the sect attempted to re-purpose themselves as bodyguards and enforcers. [4]

Known Master Steel[]

Morito[]

The first Master Steel was none other than Morito, the Ox Clan Champion. The Ox Clan's lands were the lands surrounding the Hidden Temple. Large numebers of the Ox Clan were a part of this sect, and the only other members of the sect were ronin living on the lands of the Ox. [1] Morito was killed in 1170 during the Scorpion's assault on the Hidden Temple. [5]

Hida Suteru[]

Morito was succeeded by Hida Suteru in 1170. [6] As the Kolat no longer held the Temple, it might be assumed that the Steel mission had changed somewhat. Suteru served as yojimbo to fellow Master Yasuki Jinn-Kuen and was in charge of defending the Yasuki family lands. It might be that the Steel Sect's current mission was related to either or both of those assignments. [7]
