Please note: This article is about the supervisors of a monastery. For other uses of the term, please see Sozu (disambiguation). |
Sozu was the Rokugani word which designated those monks who were the supervisors of various areas of life within the monastery. In the monastic hierarchy they were above initiates and rishi, althoug below sojo and Dai-sojo. The sozu wore a black over-robe to show their status. [1] Their principle duty was to assign tasks and chores, [2] instructing small groups of monks in Shinsei Sutras. [3]
