Soshi Shugenja

From L5r: Legend of the Five Rings

The Soshi Shugenja School is based on illusions and its very close to the Soshi traditions, and is mainly taught in the Dojo of the Closed Eye. The Soshi traditionally were expert on tejina, but after the War Against Shadow these knowledges were given to Yogo Kakatsu and a new small dojo was created to teach and control the shadow magic.

[edit] History

The past of the Soshi school is shrouded in darkness. The original Soshi was a walking deception (it is said that he was nothing more than an alias Shosuro adopted after faking her own death). Thought the Scorpion are not highly religious, the Soshi are an exception to the rule. During the two exiles the Scorpion suffered, Shiro Soshi was spared the wrath of the Imperial Legions, but the Dojo of the Closed Eye was found and destroyed.

After the return of the Scorpion Clan from the Burning Sands, the school have been rebuilt larger than before, standing as a silent testament to the Scorpion's ability to thrive through adversity. The dojo stands in the sadow of Shiro Soshi wich serves to protect it from the Empire, and also to protect the Empire from the school.

[edit] Tradition

The Soshi family is hesitant to admit those from outside their family. Other Scorpion occasionally gain admittance into the Dojo of the Closed Eye, but are never truly accepted as one of the family.

[edit] Training

Soshi sensei are notoriously cruel and intolerant taskmasters who see it as their duty to weed out the weak. Shugenja are organized into classes, amoung which the sensei encourage fierce competition. Those who maintain a respectful deference to their superiors and yet manage to excel beyond their their classmates are carefully noted.

During their training, the Soshi shugenja learn the arts of poison and subterfuge along with the more traditional, refined arts of the shugenja. Like any Scorpion, the Soshi are expected to be able to hold their own in the courts of the Empire, and be fully prepared to participate in the endless Scorpion intrigues. This is another reason the Soshi encourage competition amoung their students. (WoShugenja, p.64)
