Soko-meijin were the grand masters of shogi, a tactical board game. It was an honorific title held by the master until they turned forty years old, at which point a grand tournament was held to determine their successor. The soko-meijin were also given honorary fealty to the Lion Clan, to remember the works of Akodo Soko.[1]
