Shiro Mirumoto
From L5r: Legend of the Five Rings
Shiro Mirumoto, or the Last Glance Castle, is the ancestral home of the Mirumoto family, standing high overlooking a pass through Kyodai and Kabe sano Kita. The road spirals upward into a ravine under the watchful gaze of those in the castle, and those who wish to visit must climb the path, invaders however must avoid arows, pitch and fire from above, with no way to retaliate.[1]

[edit] Construction
The consruction of Shiro Mirumoto was begun at the dawn of the Empire, by order of Mirumoto himself. Alas Mirumoto died on the Day of Thunder in 42, and was never able to see his home finished. His adopted son, Mirumoto Hojatsu, continued the work but was forced to have the site of the castle moved because of the limitations of the previous site. Alas, Hojatsu also died before the completion of the castle, dying in a duel with his father's rival Kakita. Every Mirumoto Daimyo since Hojatsu has however known Shiro Mirumoto as their home.[2]
[edit] Function
As is typical for the Dragon, Shiro Mirumoto is not a lavish family estate or a massive fortress. It is exactly what the Mirumoto require, and nothing more. As the ancestral home of the Mirumoto family it houses the largest dojo for it's students also. It has the largest barracks to house the armed forces of the Clan, and is always stocked in case of being besieged. The castle itself is not much to look at, but it is stark and functional. Its greatest defense is the fact that it is remote and hard to approach.[2]
[edit] Authorities
The castle is the home of the Mirumoto Daimyo, and as such the Daimyo is the governor of the castle. The current daimyo was Mirumoto Mareshi, but due to a lack of faith in his own abilities to lead the family he ceeded most of those responsibilities to his wife Mirumoto Kei. In their absences however, the duties of managing the city fall to Mirumoto Hojatsu or Mirumoto Bokkai.[2]
[edit] Facilities
The castle is equipped with archetypal equipment needed to withstand cold winters in the mountain. It houses enough supplies to house a large number of troops for an extended period of time. The barrack space however limits the castle to housing more than a quarter of the entire Dragon Clan Army at a time. Contained within the castle is the Path of Hojatsu Dojo. Also, within sight of the castle sits the Iron Mountain Dojo. It was constructed on the site of the original Shiro Mirumoto, and it is one of the most prestigious dojo in the Empire.[3]
[edit] Defenses
At most times the castle contains some of the Dragon Army. These would be the First through Eighth Legions, and the Twenty-seventh Legion (Nightingale Warriors). In addition to the legions there are approximately two thousand Mirumoto students at any one time and about one hundred sohei.[4]
[edit] Increased Security
In 1161 the Mirumoto Daimyo Mirumoto Uso was murdered within his private chambers in the castle, and since then the security has increased even more, making it a virtually impregnable fortress. [1]
