The Last Step Castle is named so because of the steep climb that leads away from the castle to the High House of Light, the gateway to the Dragon mountains. The castle was awarded to Agasha Kitsuki after he was permitted to found the Kitsuki family. Some say there is a secret path leading from the flatlands to Shiro Kitsuki, but if there is it is well hidden. ^[1] The castle has a very small garrison, but it has many other methods of protection. Many of these are enchantments, such as one that flings anyone trying to scale the walls to their death against the ground. The castle is also home to the Dojo of the Open Eye, which is where the Kitsuki Method is taught to all would-be Kitsuki Magistrates. There is an ongoing collaboration between the Kitsuki and the Tamori shugenja. The Tamori have built a temple at the castle to a great Earth spirit that lives in the mountains, despite their affinity to Air. ^[2]
