Shiba Kanjiro was the husband of Shiba Tsukune and father of Shiba Aikune. As a Returned spirit during the Battle of Oblivion's Gate, he saved Tsukune's life and offered her marriage afterwards. He since served the Phoenix as the spirit guardian of Gisei Toshi. [1]

Second Death[]

Kanjiro died during the War of Spirits in battle against the Steel Chysanthemum forces, in 1150. [2]

Kanjiro had been a guardian of the Isawa's Last Wish. When he ventured forth to defend his homeland drew the attention of the imprisoned Iuchiban, who was seeking a way to locate and master the Wish. Kanjiro was resolute and dedicated to his duty, so Iuchiban passed his attention to Kanjiro's son, the brash and impetuous Aikune. [3]

Realm of Thwarted Destiny[]

Kanjiro after his death did not come to Yomi, as everyone expected. He cam to a realm who was not known yet in Rokugan, the Realm of Thwarted Destiny, a place for the souls who had not met his destiny. The non concluded destiny of Kanjiro was to safely guard the Wish. [4]

Legion of the Dead[]

In 1166 were assembled two armies of dead souls, the Legion of the Dead, a Legion of dead heroes as his wife Tsukune, and the Legion of Blood, assembled by minions of the Shadowlands and the most reviled villains. As the two forces initially battled for control over the newly forming realm, Isawa Tsuke released a massive explosion intending to stop the First Oni, but it also disrupted the realm and knocked everyone in it into private memories of critical choices in their lives. The Realm of Thwarted Destiny was testing each of them, to see if they would embrace their destines or reject them. The realm could become a place where those who failed their destinies could repeat their failures for eternity or a place where those who failed could embrace their fates and find redemption. [5]

Beside Tsukune Again[]

While the rest of Tsukune's companions blurred and disappeared, the Fortune was not introuced in the mists of the new Realm. She was met by Kanjiro and warned it was an entity that could influence the other souls to choose wrong. Tsukune realized she could also contact the other and influence them as well. Kanjiro agreed to be with her, and told anything she needed. One of the questions answered was why she had not become consumed by visions of her destiny as the rest. Kanjiro explained she had not met her destiny yet [4]
