The Shiba Festival was a festival celebrated by the Phoenix Clan. It took place in the depths of the cold northern winter. The Phoenix gathered to encourage the sun to be reborn for spring as the phoenix was reborn from its own ashes. In addition to the usual festival entertainments, the Shiba Festival focused on the telling of stories of Amaterasu and her children.
One particular dance popular at this festival involved a shugenja dressing in a bright red and gold phoenix costume and hiding in a large paper egg. Other shugenja dressed as oni and danced around the egg. Eventually, the shugenja inside the egg burted forth and banished the oni.
The Shiba Festival was similar in function to the Isawa Festival.
