Setsugekka was the Rokugani term for the three elements of nature, snow (setsu), the ocean (gekio), and flowers (ka). Snow expressed the heart of the winter, home of court and society; the ocean symbolized eternal change yet was an eternal constant; and flowers represented the myriad plants and trees in endless transition amidst the cycle of the four seasons.
