Rensei

Rensei is the master sensei of the Machi-Kanshisha dojo. He was picked by the Kaeru family a generation ago to be the sensei as they recognized a motivational leader when they saw one. He inspired others by causing them to fear him, and although the Kaeru are very powerful and influential many of the ronin fear Rensei more than they fear the Kaeru. Rensei himself does not care. He approaches his duty with the stance of a businessman. He is paid for results, and applies pressure to ensure those results. Secretly he wishes the Kaeru would offer him fealty, as he has no wish to remain a ronin his entire life. For the moment though he is content with things the way they are. (Samurai pp. 94-95)
