The Red Snow Battle was fought after the Lion Clan Champion, Akodo Meikuko, reacted violently to a casual statement by a Togashi monk. She lead 20,000 Lion Clan samurai in an attack on Kyuden Togashi during the winter. Only 2,000 survived. [1]
Battle[]
During four weeks the Lion climbed the snowed peaks of the Dragon. On the final night Meikuko forced her army to march until they finally arrived at the base of Kyuden Togashi, supposedly to take the enemy by surprise. Meikuko fought the Dragon on their terms, the Dragon knew they would come and they had let them make the climb to see if it could be made. The exhausted army was decimated. [2]
Meikuko's seppuku[]
Meikuko took her own life with the Bloodsword Revenge, which had driven her to start the battle. Since that time, her name has become synonynous with "mistake" among the Lion Clan. [1]

The battle and the seppuku were depicted in The Seppuku of Akodo Meikuko, which was the story told by Meikuko herself to Ikoma Sekumi shortly before she died. [3]
