The Red Snow Battle was fought after the Lion Clan Champion, Akodo Meikuko, reacted violently to a casual statement by a Togashi monk. She lead 20,000 Lion Clan samurai in an attack on Kyuden Togashi during the winter. Only 2,000 survived

Meikuko took her own life with the Bloodsword Revenge, which had driven her to start the battle. Since that time, her name has become synonynous with "mistake" among the Lion Clan. (3E p.13)
