Crossbow was a ranged weapon consisting of a bow mounted on a stock that shooted bolts.
They were smaller and less awkward to carry than a bow, although they were heavier. They had a reduced range, but more power than an arrow, and could penetrate armor at close range. The heavy crossbow was a larger, heavier version of the regular crossbow. It had more power, but took more time to reload as well.
It was most commonly used by peasants, bandits and the Yobanjin tribes. The rokugani called it Oyumi. While this word was orginally given to a siege weapon of similar design, it had been adopted for the infantry version as well.
