Nobori Raiu was the Celestial Sword of the Mantis. It was created by the Fortune of Steel, Xing Guo after the Ancestral Swords were scattered across the Celestial Heavens, commissioned by Lord Sun and given to the Clan Champions. [1]

Abilities Edit

Its wielder could correctly predict the weather for the next day, and could call down a bolt of lightning from above, directed at an opponent. [2]

Yoritomo Aramasu Edit

The sword was first given to Yoritomo Aramasu, who declared that it seemed to be forged from lightning, rather than steel. Moshi Jukio declared that the blade was destined to be wielded by a member of Yoritomo's bloodline. Aramasu, knowing of the existance of his little sister carried the blade, but never drew it, even in the face of his Scorpion assassins. The blade was lost, and presumed taken by the Scorpions, but was found by a heimin, Chojiro, who first thought to sell the blade, but soon found himself in hiding from the two rival Mantis Champions. [3]

Yoritomo Kumiko Edit

The heimin was convinced by a Daidoji agent to pass the sword, and Doji Kurohito gifted it in 1159 to Yoritomo Kumiko after her coup in Kyuden Gotei. [4]

Yoritomo Naizen Edit

In 1167 the sword was lost in the sea when Kumiko and her nemesis Yoritomo Kitao died in the Battle of Broken Waves. Shortly after a sailor found it in the Isawa shore and gave it to the new Mantis Clan Champion, Yoritomo Naizen, who wielded it crying the name of his founder. [5]

The sources relating to this article are in conflict with each other.
Prayers and Treasures, page 141 claims the blade was stolen by Chojiro but thrown to the sea years later, being found by Yoritomo Naizen and Yoritomo Singh. I keep the fiction Ashes and Steel as canon.
