The Nikesake Castle was built to withstand the many assaults Nikesake had to suffer from their Matsu neighbors, [1] towering over the city. It dated to the early centuries of the Empire, and it incorporated all of the most recent improvements in defensive architecture. [2]

The roof tiles were glazed in orange and red and arranged in geometric patterns, with gardens decorating the grounds. A wide moat was crossed by two red bridges. The interiors of the castle were stark and unadorned. The castle acted as the barracks and training grounds for the Provincial Guard. The governor resided there, but he usually held court out of the oppressive castle, often in the Crane embassy. An Emerald Magistrate's office and residence was located in the castle. [2]
