Nage-Yari
The Nage-Yari was a javelin of roughly three to four feet in length. It was tipped with metal and was useful as both a melee and ranged weapon. It was an unusal weapon, and only used by certain orders of the Togashi monks, Unicorn light cavalry units. [1] and Lion spearmen. [2]
Creation

The naga-yari was believed to have been developed spontaneously during a battle. A samurai unhorsed and killed a mounted opponent, but his yari was broken. Another enemy on horseback turned to him, so the samurai removed the remnants of his yari and threw it, killing his foe. Afterwards, the samurai practiced and began to develop the weapon as an alternative to the yari, despite its poor balance. [3]
