The Nagamaki was in essence a sword blade mounted on a short wooden pole. It was designed to be wielded one-handed, and combined the virtues of a sword with the leverage of a hafted weapon. It and the naginata, a larger version of the nagamaki, were most commonly used by the Phoenix Clan. [1] Its invention was credited to the Order of Osano-Wo. [2]

Shiba Technique Edit

The Shiba had a unique technique to use the shorter nagamaki against a mounted foe. They sidestepped the charging opponent and attacked the mount, the rider, or both. To attack both they attacked the mount at the saddle, crippling the mount and dismounting the rider. [3]
