Mochiko was a ronin during the reign of Empress Hantei Yugozohime. Yugozohime demanded that the Lion grant Mochiko fealty. Matsu Mochiko won the Test of the Emerald Champion after Yugozohime’s consort, Doji Usan, turned down the position. Mochiko was believed to have been the legendary first ronin Matsu Mochihime.(Wolf p. 25-27)
