Mirumoto Jairuzu was a bushi scout and mountaineer of the Dragon Clan.
Station[]
Jairuzu was assigned to the Northern Towers of Flame in the Winter of 1169. His sensei Mirumoto Toraizo taught him how to deal with the Yobanjin minions of the Dark Oracle of Fire Chosai, who set his men on fire without killing them, and used them for suicide attacks against the Dragon. [1]
Skirmish with the Mantis[]
In 1170 the Mantis had been allowed by the late Otomo Daimyo Otomo Hoketuhime to chase bandits on Dragon lands. In the road to Toi Koku Moshi Chuuya, Tsuruchi Fuyu, and Tsuruchi Masako began the mission killing several brigands. The Dragon, led by Mirumoto Jairuzu, saw this as an unwarranted incursion into their territory [2] and tried to detain the Mantis detachment. Two Dragon were killed in the ensuing skirmish, but no Mantis were killed. [3]
Death[]
The Towers were destroyed in the opening attacks of the War of Dark Fire in 1170. He survived for four days in the ruble before dying shortly after giving a final report to the Fourth Imperial Legion under Hida Tonoji. He was able to give the warning that in fighting the Yobanjin invaders, one “Must not… kill them. Shoot… shoot them.”[4]
