Mi-ai was the Rokugani word for the arranged marriages. [1] It traditionally began with a formal interview between the parents of the prospective bride and groom, to make sure both sides were comfortable with a future pairing. If the two families lived far apart, a Nakado or other go-between might be enlisted to help. [2]
