Matsu Hotaru was a bushi of the Lion Clan. He was appointed as commander of a small bushi force at Kyuden Kurogane-Hana, where the Temple to Emma-O was located. Though Kyuden Kurogane-Hana was not a Lion holding, they believed strongly in properly honoring the dead, and places such as this must be protected regardless of clan ownership. [1]
