Masatoyo was a Shiba cast out of the Phoenix Clan for repeatedly questioning his superior's orders. He became a mercenary and turned his once lackluster skills into swift, clever and deadly leadership. His mon was a severed bleeding head, which did not symbolize him as a savage warrior but was used as more of a religious symbol. On Masatoyo's first battle, he decapitated a boy only 3 months past his gempukku, and used the image of the boy's head on his mon to forever apologize to the boy's spirit. ^[1]
