A Budoka
Budoka was a peasant who had taken up a weapon and chosen to learn the code of Bushido. They did not use samurai weapons, and were well versed in unarmed combat. [1]
They were the deputies to the doshin, assistants to either a yoriki or a Magistrate's deputy. [2]
Selected from the heimin class by the doshin, budoka might be pressed into service. Their authority was only over minor crimes among the eta. [3]
