Kyuden Ashinagabachi

Kyuden Ashinagabachi

The Castle of the Wasp (M6) in the Ashinagabachi province [1] was home to the Tsuruchi family, arguably the finest archers in Rokugan, something the castle defenses took advantage of. [2]

The castle of Shiro no Uragiru guarded the southern Scorpion border. [3] It nestled in a valley near where the mountains bordered on Aki Mizu-Umi, [4] against the southern edge of the Spine of the World Mountains, [5] sitting above the Lake of Silent Dreams [6] and the road to the castle cut through a steep mountain pass, allowing archers to fire upon attackers with impunity. The Scorpion and the Tsuruchi hold great resentment towards each other to this day for this holding. [7]

Notable Locations[]

Kyuden Ashinagabachi was the location of the Kyuden Ashinagabachi Dojo [8] also known as Tsuruchi's Test, where every member of the Tsuruchi family underwent gempukku. [9] Tsuruchi Bounty Hunters were trained in the Hunter of Men Dojo. [10]

In 1107 during the gempukku of Tsuruchi the Lion seized the castle, after Scorpion assassins had killed the castle's Lord, Bayushi Uchinore. In 1109 Tsuruchi retook his father's castle and made it the ancestral home of the Wasp Clan. [11]

Destroyer War[]

In 1173 during the Destroyer War Doji Jun'ai, the Keeper of Water found a letter which spoke of a conspiracy to allow the fall of Kyuden Ashinagabachi to the forces of Kali-Ma as a message to the Mantis for their impertinence. [12] The Mantis garrison was advised by Doji Okakura of the imminent arrival of the Destroyers. He had been advised through dreams by the prophetic shojo En'you. [13] The castle was attacked and besieged in the last fight of the War. Kyuden Ashinagabachi was intact and largely undamaged. [14]
