|Please note: This article is about the painter of the 2nd century. For other uses of the term, please see Gennai (disambiguation).|
Kuni Gennai was a shugenja and painter of the Crab Clan. His love was nature, who sketched pictures of animals, plants, and other natural objects, accompanied by short descriptions of what they were and what was known about them. Gennai's works were the first cohesive attempt to catalog the natural life of Rokugan.
He voluntarily became a ronin to wander the Empire and discover more creatures and plants worth documenting. The Kami Hida angered, but came around when Gennai's works were noticed by Hantei Genji. Gennai was invited by the Emperor to the court, and Hida reinstated Gennai to the Crab Clan.
