Soshi Koukai was a bushi of the Scorpion Clan who left his home less than a year after his gempukku. Without the traditional magical gifts of his family, he intended to discover his place in the world following the tradition of musha shugyo. He was known as the ronin Koukai, and gained a fame as a pirate that had plagued the southern coast of Rokugan. During his travels, he had found a place among the crew of a wealthy Yasuki Merchant who was little more than a pirate. [1]
Test of the Emerald Champion[]
Eventually the Scorpion approached him and arranged for Koukai to be invited through the Test of the Emerald Champion, calling in a costly favor with Miya Ryo in order to do so. His instructions were to impede the actions of any contestant that might pose a threat to other Scorpion contestants. [1]
