Kotsuzumi was a small tsuzumi, a hourglass-shaped drum played with the hand, that had loosely laced drumheads. It was held on the right shoulder with the left hand. The drummer stroke the drumhead with the right hand and squeezed the laces with the left, thus altering the tone produced. [1]
