Please note: This article is about one of the ronin shugenja in the late 12th century. For other uses of the term, please see Koan (disambiguation).

Koan was one of the many ronin shugenja along the history of Rokugan who bore that name. He had been taught by his predecessor and took the name after him. [1]

P'an Ku's Madness Edit

Koan realized it was time to use a pair of large pearls carefully preserved among the line for generations. He had nearly died acquiring then, and the forces of the Dark Naga would stop at nothing to acquire them, and could sense their location across vast distances. In 1198 Koan planted them near a Fudo temple, and waited to see the Fudoist monks being slaughtered by the creatures, in their search for the pearls. In this way the ronin ensures that none of the monks would be able to destroy the accumulated lore they guarded. The temple was found by the creatures, who killed the Fudosit, and the Naga in turn were found and killed by Emerald Magistrate led by First Magistrate Doji Hakuseki. The Writings of Fudo were exposed to the Empire, as Koan had expected. [1]
