Kazanagan no Oni was an oni of the Shadowlands.

Appearance[]

Kazanagan was thirty feet in stature, of roughly humanlike shape, who had a gravelly skin with glowing cracks. [1] Kazanagan no Oni was able to kill a mortal with only a few blows and hurl fiery rocks torn from its own body. Its skin was black and gravelly, with orange-hot veins tracing lines between chunks of muscle. Despite having no mouth, it could make itself heard by anyone near it, its voice echoing as a low rumble in their ears. Unique among oni, it could be summoned without a ritual if enough blood was spilled upon the battlefield. [2]

Demise[]

Kazanagan no Oni had plagued the Crab several times over the centuries, until it was defeated by a samurai named Hida Kayo, who swore that he and his descendants would always stand in its way. [2]

Attacking the Wall[]

After centuries of waiting, the murder by a mahō-tsukai of the last descendant, also named Hida Kayo, allowed Kazanagan to materialize in the mortal realm. The monster aimed to defeat the Crab once and for all, and moved to the Kaiu Wall his Horde formed by goblins, skeletons, zombies, Tainted humans, trolls, ogres, and other denizens of the Shadowlands. Kazanagan ordered to his officers Teeth-Taker, Kazuyoshi, Moto Morikazu, Sakae, and Old Prickly to overrun the Rokugani defenses near the Third Watchtower. The oni expected to kill the Crab's commander, Hida Tomonatsu, to use her blood to prepare a mahō ritual that, if completed, would destroy the entire watchtower. A group of samurai investgating Kayo's murder were instrumental in defeat the Horde. [3]
