Kawaru Sages studied and refined the ancient kawaru texts and methods, blending them with actual divination magic to get more precise results. They liked to wear robes embroidered with the kawaru hexagrams. This school was practiced by the Dragonfly and Phoenix Clans. [1]

The Sages were something of an elitist group and rarely accepted students from outside the Isawa family. They studied the Book of Changes, wrote by a powerful water shugenja of the 3rd century, Isawa Teruyo. [2]
