A Kanrinin was a caretaker of the Emperor's roads, assigned by the Miya family. [1]

Imperial Kanrinin[]

During winter court several individuals from a Clan were appointed as kanrinin of the Imperial Palace, one of the greatest Imperial Honor a Clan might receive. The Miya decided who should accept this esteemed duty. [2]

Miya Troubles[]

In winter 1122-1123, while the Emperor hosted winter court in Kyuden Seppun, Miya Yoto invited the Three Man Alliance to care for the Palace, along with a collection of ronin. His son Miya Satoshi, who despised the ronin and Minor Clans, arranged a number of the barbarian Moto to spend the winter in the Unicorn Guest Home. Yoritomo himself was embroiled, after the Moto requested to share the Kanrinin duties with the Three Man Alliance. The Moto and Minor Clans fought amongst themselves duel after duel. From a total of 32 duels recorded, 14 were won by the ronin Dairya. [3]

Emperor's return[]

When Hantei XXXVIII returned he found several damages in the Ekohikei, some missing items in the Imperial Palace, and his beloved seagulls were dizzy, unable to walk or fly correctly. Twenty one noble men and women were killed or committed seppuku before the thruth came out. The Imperial pets had been released and Tsuruchi using Whistling Bulb Arrows had knocked them out in the air, saving the Emperor's pets. The Kanrinin were put to work returning the Forbidden City and Ekohikei back together. [4]
