Life[]
Merao was a bushi who lose his hand grip due to an injury during a border skirmish. He became an actor, using his experience in combat to portray lead roles in plays that glori�ed famous battles and duels. He intensively studied the Tao of Shinsei, and he was twenty-six, Merao undertook a spiritual journey to a sacred waterfall and had a self-described “spiritual awakening” that made him realize every creature's right to life. He returned as a changed man who spent the remainder of his life re�ning the techniques of self-defense. Merao called his art “Mizu-do,” the Way of Water. He first made his techniques public at the age of forty-five. Merao eventually retired as a monk in the year 456. [2]
