The Kaeru family was historically a ronin family that ruled Toshi sano Kanemochi Kaeru while the Unicorn Clan greatly ignored the holding. When the Lion Clan laid claim to the city, the Kaeru, who had no strong allegiance to the Unicorn, offered to administrate the city for its new owners. In return, they became a vassal family of the Ikoma.
