Topaz Champion Edit
Juriken was a promising student at Shiro Giji. His sensei broke a long-standing tradition and allowed him to compete at the Topaz Championship. Juriken concealed the questionable nature of his training, competed, and won, becoming the Topaz Champion in 1164.
In 1166 Juriken was captured during a mission. He was immediately disavowed by the Crane and cast out, accused of working on his own against the Scorpion. Juriken would have been executed, but he escaped, and harbored a terrible resentment of the Crane ever since, aghast that they discarded him so readily.
Topaz Championship of 1168 Edit
Juriken wanted the Crane disgraced, and was willing to sacrifice himself to achieve it. In 1168 he planned to sabotage the Topaz Championship, alongside his accompliances Kota, Jin, and Taka. Juriken released several venomous snakes into a mud pit over which the participants must jump and grab a rope, then swing themselves to the other side. In the Weapons contest Juriken and his men secretly replaced a number of blunted weapons with weapons that appeared safe, but were actually more dangerous than they appeared. During the Hunting of Tsu eggs, Juriken was outraged that the Championship had not yet been canceled, and attacked one team of contestants, killing several of them before he fled.
