Jotaru was a peasant who discovered a small, forgotten shrine, deep within the Unicorn lands. It was recognized as one devoted to Hotei by a wandering monk, and Jotaru tended it during forty years, expecting to be blessed by the Fortune of Contenment. Finally, as he was about to die, he visited the shrine one final time. The Fortune who protected the shrine appeared to bless the peasant for his service, but he was Jotei, the Fortune of the Morning Dew. The peasant had wasted his entire life worshiping the wrong Fortune. Jotaru died, giving thanks to the Fortune for having a good life. Since that day Jotei protected those who were faithful, but foolish. [1]
