Jigoku

Jigoku, also known as the Realm of Evil, is one of the Spirit Realms. It is a realm of pure and darkest evil and the source of the oni and the Shadowlands. Though all of the Spirit Realms are occassionally referred to as "Jigoku", the proper use of the name is only for the one dark Realm. [1]

[edit] Nature
The realm itself is a maelstrom of pain and suffering, with the yokai spirits being constantly hounded and tortured by oni. The gates of Jigoku are guarded by Yakamo no Oni, who keeps Kitsu Okura's soul eternally bound to the gates as a reminder of Yakamo's failure.[2] Jigoku is one of the most jealous realms, exerting its control in the form of the Shadowlands Taint.[3] It is primarily concerned with the corruption of Ningen-do, since it is connected to all other realms. [4]
[edit] Inhabitants
- Oni, the only native inhabitants of the realm. Examples include the First Oni, imprisoned over a thousand years ago by Shiba, and Yakamo no Oni, who guards the gates of Jigoku.
- Yokai, corrupted spirits that have been sent here because of their mortal lives. Examples include Yogo Junzo, Kitsu Okura and Kuni Yori.[3]
- Fu Leng, who has resided here since his defeat during the invasion of Tengoku.

- Distant to Chikushudo and Toshigoku.
- Barred to Meido and Tengoku.
