Isawa Teruyo was a great water shugenja of the 3rd century skilled at reading destinies. He devised a divination method which relied on six-lined figures known as hexagrams. Tetsuyo described it in the scroll Kawaru. [1] Many had doubts about its value, after a few cases where Kawaru diviners failed to answer questions accurately. Teruyo remained adamant to his beliefs, since his text had come directly from the Fortune of Wisdom. His teachings would lead to the creation of the Kawaru Sage school. [2]
