[edit] Youth

Isawa Chuda was a unassuming child who spent more time dreaming of becoming part of the Council of Five than working. While he was young, his father was killed by bandits and he discovered some scrolls belonging to his father. The scrolls contained his father's experiments with maho. Horrified his father had become a user of the black arts, he vowed to destroy all maho and maho-tsukai. He quickly became an Imperial Magistrate and an expert in destroying maho cults. [2]

[edit] Naga Temple

In 335, while hunting a maho-tsukai into the Shinomen, Chuda discovered an ancient naga temple hidden by the overgrowth. While he was unable to decipher the writing, he took note of the snake motifs and the feeling peace and purity within the temple. He never told the location of the temple.[3]

[edit] Saving the Emperor

In 339, while destroying a maho cult near the Shinomen Mori, he found evidence an Emerald Magistrate was corrupted by the cult and rushed to stop an assassination attempt on the Emperor. He was severly wounded in the resulting battle. [2] The Emperor rewarded him for saving his life and for his years of service with a family name and a new minor clan, the Snake Clan. Chuda said he chose the Snake because he considered himself the Emperor's serpent, "creeping into the hidden places and striking down [his] enemies." In reality, he did so in hopes of emulating the purity of the naga ruins he had found years back. [1][3]

[edit] Family

Chuda married Chuda Reiko who bore him a son, Chuda Yoharu.

[edit] Beginning of the End

Once, when Chuda was hunting maho-tsukai, his son and wife were attacked by a maho cult. Reiko in desperation had used maho to save them and upon seeing his wife's corruption, Chuda retired to a monastery. Yoharu became daimyo at the death of his father, and his reign was long and uneventful. The Snake Clan became known throughout the Empire as skilled shugenja and some Chuda served as yoriki to Imperial Magistrates. It was however, Reiko's curiosity of the occult that lead the Snake Clan deeper into maho. [2]
