Isawa Amiku was the Master of Void of the Phoenix Clan who joined the Brotherhood of Shinsei as Amiku.

Arrogant[]

Amiku trained intensively throughout his youth to be worthy of his gift and his ancestors, but soon arrogance followed talent and he came to look down on those who could not speak to the Void. [1]

Heresy of the Five Rings[]

Amiku was convinced about the supremacy of the Ishiken. He was pleased about the teachings he heared at Nikesake from the monk Gorinno, who claimed the Phoenix to be the Clan of Void. [1] In 519 Amiku and the Kuni Daimyo Kuni Watabe embraced the teachings proposed by Gorinno, a movement which would be known as the Heresy of the Five Rings. [2]

Elemental Master[]

In 525 Amiku was chosen as the new Master of Void. His first act was to establish supervision over the new monastic sect of the Order of the Five Rings, founded by Gorinno under the wing of the Lion Clan Champion Akodo Kento. Amiku was wary the sect was being used by the Lion to pursue their own agenda. In 531 Amiku decided to take control of the Order of the Five Rings and personally led an army to conquer the Monastery of the Five Rings, confronting a Lion army on the border between the two clans. [3] During a Lion-Phoenix skirmish he attempted to use his abilities against the enemy, but he lost control and stared into the Void. As a result of his failure the Phoenix were routed. [4]

Retirement[]

After weeks in a half-mad state, Amiku found refuge in an isolated temple dedicated to Fukurokujin, the Fortune of Wisdom. He regained his sanity and recognized his own mistakes, gaining true enlightenment. Amiku returned to Kyuden Isawa, resigned his position as Elemental Master, and joined the Order of the Thousand Fortunes [5] as the monk Amiku. Through the study of the Tao of Shinsei he realized that his failure happened because he focused only on the Void and had lost the perception of oneness with all other things. Amiku claimed Shinsei had reached enlightenment seeing the patterns of Void in all things. [4] Amiku's enlightenment allowed him to see the hole in Gorinno's soul, and he unsuccessfully tried to help his old teacher. Amiku in his old age he became one of the most respected sensei in the Brotherhood. [6]
