The Imperial District, the Old City, was the innermost portion of the Second City, derived from the original enclosure within the city's military fortifications. [1]
Purpose[]
It housed the most relevant citizens and guests of the Second City, [2] such as the Imperial Governor of the Colonies, the embassies of the clans, and the primary temple of the Brotherhood of Shinsei. The buildings were typically multiple-story. [1]
Center of the Second City[]
The district was surrounded by the Military district, which in turn was within a wall designed to withstand a siege, creating almost a small city of its own. [3] The Temple District bordered the Imperial to the east, the Merchant District to the west, the Artisan District to the southwest, the Peasant District to the south. [4]
History[]
P'an Ku's Madness[]
In 1199 the district suffered the ravages of the maddened mob which was under the influx of P'an Ku's madness. [5] The district was evacuated and place under command of the Spider Clan, as it was the place selected by the Rokugani to summon the mad dragon. [6]
Dark Naga Assault[]
In 1199 Dark Naga forces assaulted the city, and the massive creature itself led the serpents against the Imperial District. [7] Its eastern wall was breached, but the creatures were eventually defeated. [8]
