Returning to Badger's Lands Edit
His mother Ichiro Rinko had spent most of her life as the Badger's representative in the Imperial Court. Rinko wanted him to grow up among his people, not stifled in the manipulating schemes of the Court. Ryozan returned to his ancestral lands as the heir of his grandfather, the Badger Clan Champion Ichiro Kihongo.  Ryozan was a young man when he became one of the Champion's principle military advisors. 
Hideo no Oni Edit
When in 1166 the Badger Clan was in danger to be stepped down as Minor Clan, the Keepers of Enlightenment wished to aid the Badger to retain his status. They discovered Hideo no Oni, nemesis of of the Badger Clan, was behind their troubles, and Ryozan led the Ichiro forces who chased the oni. It was seen near an old shrine, forced to retreat within the temple, and pinned down by Ryozo. The Badger retained his status after the Ryoshun's Grave was found. 
War of Dark Fire Edit
In 1170 the yobanjin Army of Fire had invaded the Empire in the opening phase of the War of Dark Fire, and the forces sent to the Ryoshun's Grave were presumed destroyed. Kihongo ordered to withdraw Shiro Ichiro, menaced by forces beyond any hope of survival. They used a tunnel beneath the castle to avoid the minions of Chosai, who had already cut off the only route south.
